Little mysteries (red paint)

I’m walking down a new bicycle and pedestrian path that’s just been completed, and there’s a spilled bucket of red paint, apparently from where the curb was being painted — except the bucket is on one side of the path, and the paint is on the other. By shooting the spill and bucket from off to the side of the path with a mild telephoto lens setting, the two elements are both isolated and visually connected. An S-curve was applied to the image in Photoshop to increase the contrast, which darkened both the fence and dirt in the foreground, and made the red paint pop a little more. I wonder what happened here?

  1. This brings to mind my days in San Francisco when people used to fill balloons with red paint and throw them at billboards. Oops, don’t want to give anybody any ideas.
