The Nocturnes are doing a Death Valley night photography workshop next month. Whether you’re new to night photography, or already a committed night shooter, this workshop and location are sure to be inspiring. And you couldn’t ask for better instructors than Tim Baskerville and Tom Paiva. The Death Valley workshop runs from November 23-25th from 3pm-midnight. So if you’re not doing anything the Friday-Sunday after Thanksgiving, you’ve still got a day or two to grab one of the last available spots for this trip! More info and photos on the Nocturnes Blog.
I recently came across Trevor Paglen‘s photography. Paglen’s Dark Matters is currently on display at Yerba Buena in San Francisco. His limit telephotography project is particularly interesting — “images of remote military installations shot from extreme distances using astronomical equipment.” Recommended for conspiracy theorists, desert rats, and those interested in the magic of out of focus images.
Two of my favorite authors have new books available — I’m almost half way through Denis Johnson’s 614 page Vietnam novel entitled Tree of Smoke and it’s great. And recently released in paperback is Zeroville by Steve Erickson, which also begins in the late 1960′s, and delves into the mind of an obsessed film editor.
Happy anniversary to the Words blog — I’ve now been rambling about photography for just over 1 year!
