Night Photography: Tecopa Laundromat (U * We * Wash)

Tecopa Laundromat (U * We * Wash) — by Joe Reifer
18 minute exposure under a full moon. Many thanks to Mark Tucker and Tim Baskerville for recommending a stop in Tecopa. I will definitely be going back: between the hot springs, China Ranch Date Farm, and nearby mining ruins, there is a lot more to see around this historic little town on the way in to Death Valley.

Here’s to Tecopa
The land of blue skies
Where the wind always blows
And the sand always flies
Where they hike, ride, and fight
The whole year ’round
Drink Bourbon Whiskey
And sleep on the ground
May they all live long
Posterity to tell
Here’s to Tecopa
The next door to H…!

Thanks, Dave! While the vintage postcard may paint a certain picture of Tecopa, everyone I met there was incredibly warm and friendly. Very cool place to explore.

A place like this really exists today. That postcard is a wonderful time piece and your image brings the time to life today. Fine work Joe.

Thanks, Maureen. If you’re traveling to Death Valley from Southern Cal through Baker, a side trip to the Tecopa area is recommended!
