      The Desert Studies Center at Zzyzx is active. Visitors are permitted in the daytime without an appointment. This photo is of a small area of the housing ruins from Curtis Springer’s former resort. When I visited last fall, the pool area nearby was being used for an experiment by scientists from Death Valley.
