  1. What lens did you use here? I’m going to rent a lens for my new 6D (got it today and thanks for the feedback)and I’d like to dabble in shooting some panoramas while I’m out there in a few weeks.

    1. Hi Tim – Congrats on the 6D. These were shot with a Tokina 10-17mm fisheye (no hood version) on a calibrated pano head. This lens is a nice alternative to the Canon 8-15mm. The Canon is slightly sharper and handles flare better. The Tokina offers 80-90% of the performance at half the price.

Check out this interview about shooting panos on Digital Trends for more gear info.

If there’s enough interest, I’d be happy to do a brief overview of the process at next month’s workshop. The whole process is still a bit complex, and requires a fair amount of equipment and effort to do well.

  2. Thanks! I’ve had only about enough time to take it out of the box and set up some menu items. Now I’ve got to learn how to operate it in the dark.
I’ve been quite please with Tokina…all though their 16-28 seems to suffer from odd rainbow flaring so I’ve had to strike that from my list.
Even if I could just see how you physically take the shots and how the panohead works, that’d be great. I’ve read a lot of your pano related material but figured I’d wait to try it until I was in the presence of the master ;)

  3. PS- I just read that the Tokina 10-17 isn’t compatible with full frame dslrs. Is that your experience or did you shoot this on a crop?
